Rating of "Western phobia" of Russian media

On May 7, 2007 on the portal "REGNUM" was published "Rating: Western phobia; Russian media" - the result of monitoring carried out by the "Research Center of the company E-generator.ru" (authors Konstantin Belousov and Natalia Zelyanskaya).

As the authors note, "the very name of Western phobia is in a sense conditional, since it is not the phobia itself that is evaluated, but the degree of criticality" .

The materials were evaluated both positive (positive value) and negative (nagative), then the results were added up, and the sum of the indicators was the "level of Western phobia".

The most anti-Western newspaper was Your Day (-189), the most "pro-Western" was Ekho Moskvy (126).

In general, as the researchers state, "the attitude towards the proposals of the West in Russia is negative: the summation of all values ​​will give the number -398" . At the same time, there is an extreme incorrectness of statements addressed to the West and, at the same time, an extreme moderation of criticism in relation to even the obviously erroneous actions of the Russian authorities.

It should be noted that in February 2007, the same center published a study of "Russophobia" in the Western media (by "Russophobia" here one should understand a critical attitude towards Russia as a state, and not towards ethnic Russians - ed. ) . With the initial premise of an increase in anti-Russian criticism in the foreign press, the result showed that the most critical of Russia is the American "Newsday" (-43), the most "pro-Russian" is the Canadian "Toronto Star" (27), and the overall indicator is -207 (i.e. e. The foreign press writes much more restrainedly and correctly about Russia than the Russian press about the "West".
