Chairman of the Presidium of the Coordinating Center of Muslims of the North Caucasus Ismail Berdiev proposed holding a nationwide referendum on amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation, so that the president would have the right to run for a third term. Interfax-Religion quotes I. Berdiev's appeal to Vladimir Putin: "... trying to comply with one regulatory norm, invented by people and for people, we forget about another, much more important principle that reflects the very essence, the spirit of a democratic republic, which is Russia, - the principle of democracy, according to which the bearer of sovereignty and the only source of power in the Russian Federation is its multinational people.
"Blessed is the state headed by a just ruler... I'm sure that Russia acquired such a ruler seven years ago in your person," writes the chairman of the presidium of the KCMSC.
According to I. Berdiev, he was prompted to write the appeal by ordinary people whom he met during his numerous trips to the mosques of the North Caucasus.
