A Kostroma priest went on a hunger strike to protest against the construction of a tourist center next to the temple.

The rector of the Kostroma Church of the Ascension-on-Debra, Father Sergius, began a hunger strike, protesting against the construction of a tourist center near the temple.

“I decided to resort not to legal forms of protest, I declare a hunger strike. Because they were warned, asked to stop construction, they continue this construction. I have no choice but to go on a hunger strike,” the priest explained.

The diocesan administration reported that the ruling bishop did not give his blessing for the hunger strike, and the priest made such a decision on his own, in violation of the church charter.

The initiators of the construction, who planned to convert the factory building into a tourist center, do not have the necessary documentation. The city prosecutor's office through the court demands to stop construction. The case was accepted for proceedings by the Sverdlovsk Court.
