A round table dedicated to countering nationalism was held in Murmansk

On September 13, 2007, a "round table" dedicated to combating nationalism and religious intolerance was held at the Murmansk regional police department. The event was attended by the heads of individual departments of the Internal Affairs Directorate and local national-cultural and religious associations (Dagestan, Azerbaijani, Muslim religious societies).

Law enforcement officials informed the participants of the meeting about criminal cases related to manifestations of national intolerance.

2005. Maxim Maksimov, head of the Department for Combating Organized Crime, informed the audience about criminal cases of an "extremist orientation", which, according to official statistics, have been initiated since .282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation in November 2005

The head of the department also reported two skinhead attacks in October 2006 (probably referring to this incident) and August 2007.

Note that we are aware of another violent incident involving skinheads in Murmansk in March 2007 and several propaganda actions (for example, in January and May 2007)

In total, according to official data, there are 50 skinheads in the region. Basically, these are the children of officers who study at vocational schools. "Often militiamen run into misunderstanding on the part of other bodies, which for some reason do not want to apply stricter measures of influence against them ," M. Maksimov noted.

The head of the Azerbaijani national-cultural association, Tariel Aliyev, reported that he himself was attacked by skinheads.

In addition to incidents related to neo-Nazi attacks, the Organized Crime Control Department investigates cases of inciting ethnic hatred through the media. According to M.Maksimov, at the present time, 2 Internet sites have been identified that preached the ideas of racial intolerance. Work is underway to terminate their activities.
