The decision to toughen the punishment for S. Dmitrievsky was canceled

On October 29, 2007, the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Court overturned the district court's decision to impose new obligations on human rights activist Stanislav Dmitrievsky.

Let us recall that in February 2005 S. Dmitrievsky was sentenced to 2 years probation for publishing the appeals of Akhmed Zakayev and Aslan Maskhadov. On August 17, 2007, the Nizhegorodsky District Court toughened this punishment by prohibiting him from committing administrative offenses under the threat of replacing his suspended sentence with real imprisonment.

Lawyer Yuri Sidorov appealed against this decision on procedural grounds: the text of the court decision did not include a reasoning part, which violates the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and the European Convention on the Protection of Human Rights. The regional court agreed with the lawyer's arguments. The submission of the penitentiary inspectorate was returned to the court of first instance for reconsideration by another judge.
