The Estonian Lutheran Church in St. Petersburg is threatened with demolition

IA "Rosbalt-Petersburg" with reference to the Estonian newspaper "Postimees" reports that the authorities of the northern capital may demolish the Estonian Lutheran Church of St. John. As Estonian Minister of Culture Laine Janes stated at a meeting of the parliamentary commission on cultural issues, the building needs major repairs, which will require about 8 million rubles. The issue of allocation of funds has already been discussed by several Estonian governments. If repairs are not made before 2009, the church may be demolished.
