Attack on a synagogue in Astrakhan

On the night of October 19-20, 2007, an attack was made on the Astrakhan Jewish religious community in Astrakhan.

A group of unknown young people, shouting anti-Semitic slogans ("Jews get out!" and "Kill the Jews!") and threatening members of the community with physical violence, broke a window and tore down a sign on the building of the Jewish center. The watchman of the synagogue called the police. Law enforcement officers appeared on the scene 15-20 minutes after the call. The vandals fled the scene.

A criminal case has been initiated into the attack. A video of the attackers has been preserved. Currently, what happened is qualified under Art. 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (deliberate destruction or damage to property).

Recall that this is not the first attack on the synagogue in Astrakhan. On the night of September 19-20, 2006, vandals simultaneously harmed Jewish communities in two Russian cities at once - Astrakhan and Khabarovsk . Let us also remind that, since 1993, 7 pogroms of the Jewish cemetery have been committed in the city.
