A criminal case has been opened under Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation following an attack on a human rights activist from Tuva.

On December 2, 2007, materials about the attack on Sayana Mongush, a native of Tuva, in the St. Petersburg metro were transferred to the city prosecutor's office of St. Petersburg "due to the special resonance of the crime." Recall that the initial check on the fact of the incident was carried out by the prosecutor's office of the metro.

On the fact of the attack, a criminal case was initiated under part 2 of article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (incitement of national hatred with the use of violence or with the threat of its use).

It should be noted that only the scandal that erupted around this attack and, perhaps, no matter how cynical it sounds, the status of S. Mongush (an employee of the government of Tuva) forced law enforcement agencies to admit the crime.

On December 6, the head of Tuva, Sholban Kara-ool, addressed an official letter to the governor of St. Petersburg, Valentina Matvienko, with a request to take the investigation of the case under his personal control.

Recall that on the same day on the Lanskoye highway, near the Chernaya Rechka metro station, several more attacks were committed .

On December 17, 2007, it became known that the criminal cases initiated on the fact of these attacks and the case on the attack on S. Mongush were united by the prosecutor's office into one proceeding.

It should be reminded that 5 people were detained on suspicion of involvement in the attack on S. Mongush and other foreign citizens who suffered on the same day.
