Korean workers beaten in the Moscow region

On the evening of December 9, 2007, in the city of Volokolamsk (Moscow region), an attack was carried out on a dormitory where 39 workers from the DPRK lived. Around 20:30 o'clock. a group of 30 young people aged 20-24, armed with wooden bats and rubber sticks, broke into an abandoned building on the street. Titov, which was used as a dormitory by citizens of the DPRK working on the construction of a multi-storey residential building.

After the beating, the attackers fled the crime scene. As a result of the fight, 16 natives of Korea were injured. 12 of them were hospitalized at the central hospital of the Volokolamsk region with injuries of varying severity, another 4 received medical assistance on the spot.

Hot on their heels, the police detained 4 residents of Volokolamsk who were suspected of the attack. A criminal case was initiated under Art. 111 (intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm) and 213 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

As it turned out later, the attack on the Korean builders was preceded by a conflict that occurred between citizens of the DPRK and a Volokolamsk driver, as a result of which the Volokolamsk driver’s car was damaged (the sidelight was broken). Having assembled a “support group”, a local resident came to the hostel to “sort out the relationship” with the offenders. The instigator of the attack is among the 4 detained.

According to representatives of the Volokolamsk district administration and the police, the incident was purely domestic in nature and “there is no talk of any skinheads in the case.” This version is indirectly supported by the fact that among the attackers there were natives of the Caucasus.
