Statistical data on the Moscow diocese announced at the diocesan meeting

At the annual diocesan meeting of the Moscow diocese held on December 17, Metropolitan Yuvenaly (Poyarkov) of Krutitsy and Kolomna announced the statistical data.

According to him, as of December 2007, the diocese includes 42 deanery districts, where 1074 parishes are registered, 18 of which were formed in 2007. At the same time, there are 1271 temples, of which 428 are ascribed.

1209 clerics serve in the diocese, 89 of them are deacons.

There are 12 male and 12 female monasteries in the Moscow diocese, the total number of inhabitants is 284 people. At 11 of these monasteries there are Sunday schools for children and adults, where 210 children and 105 adults study.

In total, there are 761 Sunday schools in the diocese, the number of students in which is 16,673 people. In addition, the course "Fundamentals of Orthodox Culture" is taught in 8 universities, 397 schools, 42 kindergartens, several technical schools, colleges and vocational schools. Not counting Sunday schools, the total number of educational institutions teaching Orthodox disciplines is 528. 44,474 people study there.

Orthodox priests minister to 197 medical institutions, where there are 87 prayer rooms and 45 hospital churches inside hospitals, and 10 churches are located separately on the territory of medical institutions. Groups of sisters of mercy have been created in three deaneries.

Through the efforts of parishes and monasteries, Orthodox libraries and video libraries have been created in 254 social institutions of the Moscow Region, and divine services are held regularly. Priests take care of 93 nursing homes.

In 2007, the diocese operated 394 distribution points for clothing, food and medicine.

According to Metropolitan Yuvenaly, the priests of the diocese cooperate with 311 units of law enforcement agencies: "This figure includes: 176 military units of the Russian army, 70 units of internal troops and police, 12 military educational institutions, 20 hospitals and 33 military commissariats. There are 27 temples, 17 chapels and 41 specially equipped prayer rooms. This year, work was carried out on the design and construction of another 14 temples and chapels."

On December 24, at a diocesan meeting in Moscow, Patriarch Alexy II cited some interesting information regarding the capital itself (we quote from Patriarchy.ru ): “There are 851 churches in Moscow: 338 parish, 135 Patriarchal Metochions, 86 under construction. In 725 Moscow churches services are celebrated, services are not resumed at 15, the former tenants did not release 25. In the capital there are 802 priests and 287 deacons - a total of 1089 clerics in the parish churches of Moscow. In the monasteries of Moscow - 405 priests and 181 deacons - 586 clergy in the monasteries of the capital. In Moscow - 1266 priests and 504 deacons - in total there are 1770 clerics in the capital.
