An interdepartmental working group has been set up in the Chita region to counter extremism in the region. On January 10, 2008, the first meeting of the group was held in the regional prosecutor's office.
The working group included representatives of the prosecutor's office, the Internal Affairs Directorate for the Chita Region, the Regional Directorate of the FSB for the Chita Region, the Administration of the Chita Region, the Office of the Federal Registration Service for the Chita Region and the ABAO. The group is headed by Vladimir Skubiev, Senior Assistant to the Prosecutor of the Chita Region.
The creation of a new body was associated with the implementation of the decision of the board of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation "On the state of implementation of legislation on interethnic relations, countering extremism and prosecutorial supervision in this area." Its main task is to resolve issues "related to the identification, prohibition and liquidation of extremist associations in the region, and later on in the Trans-Baikal Territory."
At the first meeting the directions of work were discussed, specific activities were planned for the first half of 2008.
