Archpriest Igor Pchelintsev, spokesman for the Nizhny Novgorod diocese, called for legislative restrictions on the use of religious symbols in advertising. "We have a huge amount of immoral advertising everywhere! We need to register the rights of religious organizations to their symbols and protect these rights under the law," the priest said.
The immediate reason for this statement was the indignation of the Orthodox residents of Nizhny Novgorod, who demanded to remove from the streets of the city the blasphemous, from their point of view, Coca-Cola advertisements with images of crosses and domes.
Recall that in the summer of 2008 the head of the Missionary Department of the Irkutsk diocese called for a boycott of food and alcohol manufacturers who use images of Orthodox shrines to decorate their products.
