A St. Petersburg human rights activist demands to check the legality of the actions of officials who do not allow religious processions at the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood

St. Petersburg human rights activist Igor Mikhailov demanded that Governor Valentina Matvienko check the legality of the actions of officials who do not allow prayer standing with processions from the Cathedral of the Savior on Blood to the Kazan Cathedral, which traditionally take place three times a year on the days of memory of the family of Nicholas II.

The Ombudsman asks to indicate the reasons for the non-coordination of the event and to establish the legality of the actions of state bodies and officials. At the same time, he notes that the consent of the authorities to hold such mass actions is not required - only notification of their holding is necessary to ensure public order.

It should be reminded that in May 2007 the administration of St. Petersburg did not allow the participants of the religious procession dedicated to the birthday of Nicholas II to cross Nevsky Prospekt.
