Search in the Museum named after. Sakharov

A search was conducted at the Andrei Sakharov Museum and Public Center as part ofa criminal case against the organizers of the exhibition “Forbidden Art - 2006”. The search was carried out by officers from the Organized Crime Control Department.

According to the official representative of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee under the Prosecutor's Office (SKP) of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Ionkin, the purpose of the search was to seize material evidence necessary for conducting examinations.

Let us remind you that the case was initiated under Part 1 of Art. 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("incitement of hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity"). Representatives of the People's Council movement demanded that the organizers be held criminally liable.

Director of the Andrei Sakharov Museum and Public Center Yuri Samodurov believes that the search could lead to charges of political extremism.

“The search in connection with a criminal case due to the organization of the exhibition “Forbidden Art 2006” was carried out by the department for combating political extremism - which means we are the most political extremists,” Samodurov expressed his opinion.

Yuri Samodurov also stated that during the search, files from his computer were copied, and a binder of media materials dedicated to the exhibition was seized from the library.
