Representatives of the Muslim community of Naberezhnye Chelny sent an open letter to the President of Tatarstan M. Shaimiev, the head of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Tatarstan, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan and the republican prosecutor's office. The authors of the letter are outraged that on January 16, in the city maternity hospital No. 1, Orthodox priests sprinkled all newborns, including Muslim children, with holy water.
“The priests deliberately committed their crime,” the letter says. “Firstly, they defiantly carried out the “baptism” of Muslim children, which could later develop into an interreligious conflict, and secondly, they violated sanitary standards by entering in their non-sterile clothes and pouring water (whose origin is unknown) all around, and thereby violating sanitary conditions, endangered the health of children.
The authors of the letter demanded "immediately take this conflict situation under control and punish the perpetrators until the parents of newborn children begin to commit lynching."
Recall that at Epiphany in Nakhodka, consecrated water was delivered to the apartments of all residents of the city, regardless of religion.
