On February 1, 2008, the Maykop City Court handed down a guilty verdict in the case of posting a Nazi video on the Internet and sentenced the accused Viktor Milkov to one year in prison in a penal colony.
Let us recall that in November 2007 the Maykop court sentenced V. Milkov under Part 1 of Art. 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (incitement of national hatred) and sentenced him to a year of correctional labor with deduction of 10 percent of his earnings in favor of the state. The state prosecution appealed the verdict to the Supreme Court of Adygea, which overturned it due to the leniency of the punishment and returned the case to the Maikop court for retrial by a different composition of judges.
A new trial on the merits of the case regarding the placement of the video began in the Maykop City Court on January 31, 2008. At a hearing on January 31, the court questioned student Viktor Milkov, who claims that he posted this entry on his blog to discuss its authenticity. The court also questioned the defendant's father and mother as witnesses. The student's brother refused to testify.
Milkov's lawyer does not agree with the verdict and intends to appeal it to the Supreme Court of the Republic of Adygea. The consideration of the cassation appeal is scheduled for March 18, 2008.
