On February 18, 2008, Viktor Milkov, a student from Maykop, who had posted on the Internet a video recording of the execution of citizens of Tajikistan and Dagestan, appealed against the sentence passed on February 1, 2008 in the Supreme Court of Adygea.
"Lawyer Milkov filed a cassation appeal against the verdict of the city court to the Supreme Court of Adygea. According to the law, the date for the consideration of the complaint will be determined within a month ," the representative of the prosecutor's office said.
Recall that the Maikop city court sentenced V. Milkov to a year in prison with a sentence to be served in a colony-settlement under Art. 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (incitement of national, racial or religious hatred). The student was taken into custody in the courtroom. He is in a pre-trial detention center pending consideration of the cassation appeal.
The Maikop court initially sentenced Milkov to a year of hard labor, but the state prosecution appealed the verdict to the Supreme Court of Adygea, which overturned it for leniency and returned the case to the Maikop court for retrial by a different panel of judges.
