The local youth movement is preparing a protest action against the construction of a Krishna religious center reports in the Molzhaninovo district (the northern district of Moscow), Interfax .
The movement opposes the appearance in Moscow of "another recruiting center for sectarians." In addition, its participants believe that "the Hare Krishnas have occupied a strategic foothold, and now they are developing areas of mass housing construction."
The participants of the action are going together with representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church to hold a religious procession at the site of the future construction.
The event took place on February 29th.
A number of prominent religious figures supported this action. Thus, according to the professor of the Moscow Theological Academy, Deacon Andrey Kuraev, the most important thing in the fight against sects is "to ensure that citizens, especially children, have access to information about the destructive activities of organizations like the Society for Krishna Consciousness."
Residents of Molzhaninovo, who participated in the action, expressed the opinion that "the Hare Krishnas seem to be peaceful and harmless, but such a notorious totalitarian sect as Aum Shinrikyo at first seemed very harmless."
Recall that in the fall of 2007, the organization "Local" has already carried out in 15 cities of the Moscow region an action against the penetration of sects into the territory of the Moscow region.
