A week against homophobia takes place in Russia

Since March 25, 2008, a week against homophobia has been held in Russia. The executive director of the Russian LGBT Network, Igor Petrov, said at a press conference that homophobia threatens public safety.

He noted that "Today it is indecent to say that you are a racist - they can be imprisoned for this. But to say that you are a homophobe is completely safe, and ultra-right fascist organizations use this to legalize themselves. " I. Petrov also recalled that in May 2006, the public organization RONS (Russian National Union) became famous for pogroms in gay clubs and dispersal of the gay parade in Moscow, and already in August of the same year, this organization committed a terrorist attack on Cherkizovsky market in Moscow.
