The trial in the case of Oyus Gurtuev has begun

On April 8, the Nalchik Magistrate's Court began considering a criminal case under Art. 129 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (slander) against the chairman of the executive committee of the Council of Elders of the Balkar People (SSBN) Oyus Gurtuev. According to the prosecutor's office of the KBR, Gurtuev accused the president of the republic, Arsen Kanokov, of committing grave crimes, including terrorism.

The case was initiated in connection with Gurtuev's statement to the Prosecutor General's Office, in which he presented a number of claims to the President of the KBR, qualified by the prosecutor's office as an accusation of extremism.

At the first meeting, two petitions of the defendant were rejected: on the inclusion in the court of an independent examination of the president's speech and on the involvement of the president as an accused to determine the degree of moral damage caused.

The court session was adjourned until April 24.

Recall that they tried to close the SSBN, but on March 18, 2008, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation overturned the decision to recognize the organization as extremist and sent the case for a new trial.
