Attack on a synagogue in Orenburg

On the night of April 11, 2008 in Orenburg, five (previously three were reported) young people (20-22 years old) “painted an image of a Nazi swastika” on the facade of a synagogue building with black paint and wrote expressions “insulting Jews on the basis of nationality.”

The attackers were detained on July 2, 2008. In July 2008, a criminal case was opened .

At the beginning of June 2009, the Central District Court of Orenburg convicted four Nazi skinheads under Part 1 of Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (incitement of national, racial or religious hatred committed in public). The court sentenced two young people to imprisonment for 5 and 6 years, and two others to 160 and 240 hours of compulsory labor.
