Nizhny Novgorod Muslims protest against the installation of a monument to the city’s founders in the city Kremlin

Nizhny Novgorod Muslims are protesting against the installation in the city Kremlin of a monument to the holy founders of Nizhny Novgorod - Prince Georgy Vsevolodovich and his spiritual father, the Monk Simon of Suzdal, Interfax reported on April 16. They consider it incorrect that when installing a monument in a public place, preference is given to one denomination.

In addition, the representative of DUMNO emphasized that the monument “was installed with the money of taxpayers, among which there are many representatives of non-Orthodox religious denominations.”

Representatives of the DUMNO believe that “monuments should also be erected in the city in memory of the Golden Horde khan Ulug-Muhammad, the Bulgar emir Ibrahim and the Khazar governor Abram. According to the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the region, these historical figures made no less contribution to the formation and development of Nizhny Novgorod than the Orthodox Prince Georgy Vsevolodovich."
