Day of Silence against discrimination was held in Russian cities

On May 3, 2008, an International Day of Silence event was held in St. Petersburg, dedicated to the problems of discrimination, moral and physical violence, lack of tolerance and the silencing of hate crimes.

Single pickets under the motto “We are silent so that we can be heard!” were organized by LGBT organizations and took place in Chernyshevsky’s garden. The picketers had their mouths taped shut and handed out leaflets calling for tolerance and against hate violence.

Similar actions took place on the same day in Novokuznetsk and Yaroslavl.

It is reported that two protesters in St. Petersburg were attacked .
