N. Ashirov asks the General Prosecutor's Office to protect a Muslim convert from persecution on religious grounds

On May 14, Chairman of the Spiritual Board of Muslims of the Asian part of Russia, Nafigulla Ashirov, appealed to the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, Yuri Chaika, with a request to protect Khongor Matsakov, a resident of Kalmykia, from persecution on religious grounds.

, who converted to Islam Matsakov , was beaten by relatives for several days, demanding to renounce Allah and recognize Buddhism. The police refused to intervene, believing that this was a family matter. H. Matsakov, together with his pregnant wife, was forced to flee Kalmykia.

In June, the Prosecutor General's Office instructed the First Deputy Prosecutor of the Republic of Kalmykia "to organize a check of the reported information, if there are grounds, to take the necessary measures of the prosecutor's response."
