R. Silantyev published data on the number of registered Muslim communities in Russia

The author of the encyclopedia "Islam in Modern Russia" Roman Silantiev published data on registered Muslim communities as of 2007.

"In total, 3,600 Islamic communities are registered in Russia. The largest Muslim center in terms of the number of communities is the Coordinating Center for Muslims of the North Caucasus - it includes more than 1,000 registered communities," he said on May 21 during a press conference in Interfax .

In addition, about 500 unregistered organizations are members of the KCMSC.

The Spiritual Board of Muslims of Tatarstan, according to R. Silantyev's estimates, unites approximately 1,000 communities. The Islamologist believes that this muftiate, although a member of the Council of Muftis of Russia, is pursuing an independent policy.

"About 900 communities are now part of the Central Spiritual Board of Muslims and from 700 to 800 - the Council of Muftis of Russia," - said R. Silantyev.
