In Ufa, the demolition of the building of the Church of the Savior on October Revolution Street has begun, Novye Izvestiya reports . Media workers are not allowed to the demolition site.
"No one answers our questions about the reasons for the demolition. The chairman of the State Institution: Scientific and Production Center for the Protection and Use of Immovable Cultural Heritage Objects of the Republic of Belarus; Flarid Sunganov, is present on site, and it seemed to us that he oversees the demolition work. In whose interests is the construction site, we don't know," said Boris Pavlov, headman of the Orthodox church.
Earlier, during the reconstruction of the Church of the Savior, the auditors of the Chamber of Control and Accounts of the Republic of Belarus (KSP RB) revealed gross violations of the spending of budget funds.
The Church of the Savior in Ufa is an architectural monument and is protected by the state.
After the appearance of reports in the media, the dismantling work was stopped.
On May 30, the Ministry of Culture and National Policy of Bashkiria gave official explanations regarding the dismantling of the temple building: the unfinished left bell tower is being dismantled "in order to prevent the narrowing of October Revolution Street and the pedestrian sidewalk."
"After adjusting the project for the restoration of the Church of the Savior, the left bell tower will be restored based on the realities of today, that is, taking into account the existing red lines," the republican ministry said in a statement.
