The parishioners of the church in the name of St. Archangel Raphael of the True Orthodox Church (TOC) addressed the leadership of the NTV television company with an open letter regarding the Russian Sensations program, which aired on May 24. One of the plots of this program was called "The Life and Price List of False Saints" and was dedicated to the temple of the Archangel Raphael. The journalist's comments aroused indignation among the parishioners of the TOC.
In particular, believers considered the reporter's report that the entrance to the church of St. Archangel Raphael costs 1200 rubles. The authors of the letter assure that the entrance to the temple and the sacraments are free. “As for the indicated modest amount, against the backdrop of the cost of medical services in our country,” the letter says, “these are donations from those who are ill for spiritual and physical healing, which His Holiness Metropolitan Raphael has long and successfully carried out.”
“The authors of the program, in addition to the tendentious “emphasis” common in journalistic practice, crossed the boundaries of legality by including in the story about our community an episode filmed in an unknown place with a demon-possessed woman and a blessing hand belonging to an unknown person, continue the parishioners. one of the monasteries of the ROC-MP, where such a practice is not something unusual. In any case, this scene has nothing to do with us, and its inclusion in the program is intended to create associations among viewers with some kind of occult sect. This may be regarded as the deliberate communication of compromising false information and legally qualified as a defamatory act.
The authors of the letter do not intend to go to court with a libel suit, but demand a public apology from the TV company.
