A rally against xenophobia in the media was held in Moscow

On June 23, 2008, an authorized picket against xenophobia in the media, organized by the Russian Congress of the Peoples of the Caucasus, took place on Teatralnaya Square in Moscow.

About 20 people took part in the event, speaking under the slogans “Freedom of speech is not for provocations and inciting hatred!”, “Responsible media is a healthy society!” and "Werewolves in the media - flush them in the toilet!" . The picket participants also threw “newspapers and magazines that, in their opinion, incited ethnic hatred” into an improvised trash bin.

The organizer of the action, Yusup Isaev, stated that recently a campaign against the peoples of the Caucasus has been launched in the media. Participants in the event emphasized that “they consider Russia their homeland, and such publications and reports set Russian citizens against them.”

“We consider the problem of inciting ethnic and religious hatred in the media to be very urgent. This should not happen if we want to live in a normal prosperous society. We hope that the picket attracted the attention of the public. Now we will wait for positive results,” said the co-chairman of the Russian Congress of the Peoples of the Caucasus Khalid money.
