Nazi skinheads convicted in Yekaterinburg

On June 30, 2008, the Sverdlovsk Regional Court passed a sentence on members of the Zig 88 group of Nazi skinheads who murdered a man on January 13, 2007, motivated by ethnic hatred.

During the trial, the defendants were acquitted of charges under Art. Art. 282.1 (creation of an extremist community and participation in an extremist community), they were convicted only under Art. 105 (murder committed by a group of persons, motivated by national hatred or enmity) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

Ivan Sazhnev born in 1988 sentenced to 10 years of strict regime, Maxim Kungurtsev, born in 1989 - by the age of 6, Alexander Kuzin, born in 1989 - to 7, Alexander Zubov, born in 1989 - by the age of 8, Ivan Golosov, born in 1989 - to 9, Evgeny Alekseev, born in 1989 - to 6 years in prison. They will serve their sentences in a penal colony. Another defendant is Alexander S., born in 1991. - Sentenced to 6 years in an educational colony. The court also fined each of them 50,000 rubles.

The "ZIG 88" community was created in the autumn of 2006. Its tasks were "to create unbearable living conditions for representatives of non-Slavic peoples in Russia and Yekaterinburg" .

On July 4, the prosecutor's office of the region reported that the state prosecution did not intend to appeal the verdict: "After the state prosecution received and studied a copy of the verdict against the participants in ZIG 88, it was decided to agree with the opinion of the court and not prepare materials on cassation" .

On July 8, the defense of some of the convicts filed an appeal against the verdict.
