The Prosecutor's Office of the Novosibirsk Region reported that it "handed representations" to local providers "on eliminating violations of the law with a proposal to block user access to materials posted on ten sites on the Internet" recognized by the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation as extremist." The site materials contain “calls for a violent change in the foundations of the constitutional system of the Russian Federation and the implementation of terrorist activities,” and also justify “humiliation of national dignity and incitement of racial and religious hatred.”

The Federal Law “On Combating Extremist Activities” prohibits the use of “public communication networks” to carry out extremist activities. “According to the law, the illegal information and propaganda impact of Internet resources containing signs of extremism on Russian consumers of information services can be minimized by blocking access to them by providers,” the prosecutor’s office said in a press release.
