Human rights activists demand an investigation into the circumstances of the case against Erofeev and Samodurov

On July 16, 2008, the chairman of the Moscow Helsinki Group, Lyudmila Alekseeva, and the executive director of the Movement "For Human Rights" Lev Ponomarev filed statements with the General, Moscow and Taganka prosecutor's offices with a demand to check the criminal case under paragraph "b" part 2 of Art . 282 against Yuri Samodurov and Andrey Erofeev regarding the exhibition "Forbidden Art".

Human rights activists believe that there is a high probability that there was a violation of the procedural rights of the accused and fabrication of the case, and possibly conspiracy to create incriminating evidence.

The basis for such conclusions, as stated in the statement of human rights activists, was "almost a year interval between the initiation of a case and the presentation of charges, which deprived Erofeev and Samodurov of the procedural rights of the accused at the most important stages of collecting evidence (examination, interrogation of witnesses); referral of the case to "verified" experts and testimony of witnesses coinciding up to a comma " .

Human rights activists are asking the prosecutor's office to assess these actions, recognize the accusations as unlawful and unfounded, and, if necessary, raise the issue of criminal liability for falsifying evidence and bringing obviously innocent people to justice.
