In March 2008, a criminal case was initiated in St. Petersburg under paragraph "b" part 2 of Art. 116 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (beating, motivated by racial hatred) against two students of school No. 558 of the Kolpinsky district.
The investigation found that two schoolgirls, aged 16 and 17, constantly unleashed conflicts with one of the students of the school because of her racial identity. They rudely insulted her and beat her once.
In mid-July 2008, the prosecutor's office of the Kolpinsky district of the city conducted an audit of the implementation of the Federal Law "On the Fundamentals of the System for the Prevention of Neglect and Juvenile Delinquency." Based on its results, the prosecutor's office made submissions on the elimination of violations of the law to the Head of the District Administration and the director of school No. 558.
