On August 1, 2008, the prosecutor's office of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky charged him with organizing the beating of a native of Dagestan named Mamedov (part 5 of article 33 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (complicity in a crime) and under paragraphs "a", "b" of part 3 of article 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm by a group of persons by prior conspiracy") to Kamchatka businessman Anatoly Shadkhin. The media report that the charge takes into account the motive of national hatred. Directly in the beating, which ended in the death of a person, six people are accused.
Mammadov was attacked on September 2, 2007.
Anatoly Shadkhin was detained in early June 2008 in Sochi and taken to Petropavlovsk.
