The issue of transferring the Transfiguration Cathedral in Uglich to the Yaroslavl diocese is still not resolved

"Rossiyskaya Gazeta", speaking about the issue of transferring property to the Russian Orthodox Church, touched upon the situation around the Transfiguration Cathedral in Uglich. In December 2007, the Yaroslavl diocese demanded that the Uglich State Historical, Architectural and Art Museum vacate the cathedral building.

According to Rossiyskaya Gazeta , the prosecutor's office conducted an investigation into the diocese's application and considered the eviction demand illegal.

“The issue of transferring the Uglich Transfiguration Cathedral and the bell tower to the Yaroslavl and Rostov diocese has not yet been resolved, it is under discussion,” said Yuri Avrutov, chairman of the committee of historical and architectural heritage of the Yaroslavl region. “Of course, there may be a temple there that is used for its intended purpose But at the same time, the interests of the museum must be taken into account - if its collections were located in the temple, then equal space should be provided for them."

For the same reason, part of the areas of the Boris and Gleb Monastery, now occupied by the Rostov Kremlin Museum, was not transferred to the church. Yaroslavl museum workers are confident that the diocese also lays claim to the ensemble of the Yaroslavl Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve.

Since 2002, 277 churches and 21 monasteries have been transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church in the Yaroslavl region.
