The Union of Orthodox Citizens stated that Dzerzhinsky is an enemy of the Russian Orthodox Church and his rehabilitation “contradicts the course of the country’s authorities towards the revival of great Russia.”
SPG proposed to declare Alexander Nevsky or Archbishop of Shanghai and San Francisco John (Maksimovich) as the patron of the special services.
Earlier, a member of the State Duma Security Committee, former Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Vladimir Kolesnikov (United Russia faction) proposed restoring the monument to Dzerzhinsky on Lubyanka.
