On October 14, speaking at a meeting of the National Anti-Terrorist Committee in Moscow, FSB director Alexander Bortnikov said that since the beginning of 2008 more than 30 members of Hizb ut-Tahrir had been prosecuted in Russia.
"The measures taken prevented the activities of underground cells of international terrorist organizations in the Volga region , the Urals and Siberia. The courts of the republics of Bashkortostan and Tatarstan, Chelyabinsk and Kurgan regions brought to criminal responsibility 31 members of the international terrorist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir," said A. Bortnikov.
In Mari El, the Krasnoyarsk and Perm Territories, and the Tyumen Region, five members of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan organization were detained and extradited.
