The Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation intends to initiate the liquidation of 56 previously registered religious organizations. The Ministry of Justice plans to go to court with claims against these organizations. The reason is "the long-term failure to provide the Ministry of Justice with the list of information and documents prescribed by law."
The list includes Christian, Muslim, Jewish and Buddhist organizations.
On November 27, Sergei Milushkin, director of the Department for Non-Commercial Organizations of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation, said that by November 25, 37 organizations had submitted reports, which served as "an unconditional basis for deleting information about them from the specified list."
By the end of November, 19 organizations remained on the list. "The Ministry of Justice appeals to the governing bodies of the organizations remaining on the list and asks to eliminate the noted violations by the end of 2008," a statement on the website of the Ministry of Justice says.
