On October 16, 2008, it became known that the investigative department for the Nizhny Novgorod region of Nizhny Novgorod of the investigative department of the Investigative Committee under the Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation for the Nizhny Novgorod region began a check on the collective appeal of Orthodox believers demanding to be prosecuted under Art. 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (actions aimed at humiliating the dignity of a group of persons on the basis of their attitude to religion, committed publicly, with the use of the media) of the editor of the website of the Novoye Delo newspaper, Natalya Ishchenko.
On the eve of Orthodox Christmas, January 4, 2008, Ishchenko, under the pseudonym "Natalia Volgina", published an article in the newspaper "Beloved of Christ". The article is a popular science retelling of several religious, historical and even artistic sources (from the canonical Bible and apocryphal gospels to Dan Brown) that mention Mary Magdalene, and does not contain, in our opinion, anything that could be qualified under 282 article of the Criminal Code.
As part of the audit, a linguistic study of the publication was assigned, to which religious experts were involved.
The appeal of offended believers to the prosecutor's office has become a trend. complained to the Prosecutor General's Office In October, the Council of Muftis , earlier a number of religious and public organizations demanded that the 2x2 channel be punished .
