Governor of St. Petersburg Valentina Matvienko expressed concern about the number of abortions in the city. She calls to contribute to its reduction with the help of the Church, Interfax reports .
According to V. Matviyenko, the Church and public organizations should be more actively involved in this issue.
"Let's work with the patriarchy and confessions. This is a moral aspect where the Church can play a role in prevention," the governor said.
The secretary of the St. Petersburg diocese, hegumen Mstislav (Dyachina), said that "no one from the city government has officially applied to the diocese."
