On November 20 in St. Petersburg, at a meeting of the Council of Muftis of Russia (RMC), it was decided to create representative offices of the RMC in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region. The meeting was attended by more than 50 representatives of Muslim religious organizations, public associations and initiative groups working in the northern capital and the Leningrad region, the official website of the Council of Muftis of Russia reports.
Elections of 7 coordinators of the RMC office in St. Petersburg are scheduled for December 18. The candidacy of the official representative of the RMC in St. Petersburg and the question of the location of the representative office will be discussed in January 2009. In general, preparatory activities are planned to be completed within 3 to 6 months.
