Professor Dobrenkov about extremism

In December 2008, the dean of the sociological faculty of Moscow State University. Lomonosov, Professor Vladimir Dobrenkov, in an interview with the press, expressed several opinions regarding extremism.

Speaking about extremism among young people and commenting on the latest trials of neo-Nazis, the professor paid attention to the phenomenon of opposition youth movements, which, in his opinion, have the same roots (namely the decline of morality and legal consciousness in society) as nationalist movements.

We would like to highlight Dobrenkov’s statement about the congress of the Solidarity movement, which spoke about the need for a change in power and political course. “But this is unconstitutional! This is an obvious extremist call! I believe that the state in this case should take tough measures within the framework of the law. Young people should be brought up in the spirit of respect for the authorities and must recognize the authority of the authorities,” the professor said.

Professor Dobrenkov is known to the general public because of a scandal at the Faculty of Sociology associated with students’ dissatisfaction with the conditions and level of education, as well as the ideologization of the educational process. Since the beginning of the 2008 academic year, the Center for Conservative Studies, headed by Alexander Dugin, has been operating on the basis of the faculty.
