The parishioners of the Old Believer Church of the Intercession in Samara addressed President Dmitry Medvedev with an open letter . They ask not to allow the demolition of the temple, as provided by the resolution of the head of the city on the redevelopment of the urban area.

The Church of the Intercession was built in 1990 and, together with the land plot adjacent to it, was transferred to the ownership of the community of the Russian Old Orthodox Church. Later, the building of the Old Believer convent of Ilyinsky was built next to it. In November 2008, residents of neighboring houses informed the parishioners about the appointment for November 18 of public hearings on the project of redevelopment of the territory where the temple is located. The project provides for the demolition of part of the buildings, including the Intercession Church and the monastery. The hearings for those living in the area were notified too late, which caused indignation among the residents, so the date of the hearings was postponed. But when they take place, the temple and monastery, along with other buildings, will probably be demolished.

The Old Believers note that the redevelopment project is not agreed with the local residents and parishioners of the temple and is contrary to the General Plan of the city. The authors of the appeal accuse the head of Samara V. Tarkhov and the chief architect of the city of arbitrariness and ask the president to intervene in the situation.
