On January 16, 2009, an explosion was attempted at a McDonald's diner in the southeast of Moscow near the Kuzminki metro station.
A young man in a tracksuit, sneakers and a cap pulled over his eyes came out of the underground passage near the Kuzminki metro station and headed towards the main entrance to the restaurant. The young man walked inside the diner, threw one of the backpacks onto a bench against the wall and quickly left the building through the back exit. Once on Zelenodolskaya Street, he ran across the roadway and disappeared into the courtyards.
Explosive experts who arrived at the scene found a homemade explosive device in the bag, which did not go off.
