On January 24, a sanctioned picket of representatives of the Orthodox community "For Holy Rus', for the Future of Children" was held in Moscow near the monument to Gogol on Gogolevsky Boulevard. The organizer of the action said that the purpose of the picket and prayer standing is to protest against "digital identification of citizens and coding systems containing the "number of the beast" 666" and to draw the attention of secular authorities and society to this problem.
The protesters stressed that they are not against bar codes in general, but against the "number of the beast" in them. At the same time, during the picket, they called on passers-by to support the traditional system of registering citizens - "without digital identifiers, biometric data, personal codes and chips." The picketers were holding banners with the inscriptions "Wake up, Russian soul, fight back the Antichrist" and "We demand a ban on the EAN-13 barcode with the number of the beast 666."
According to Islamnews news agency, leaflets critical of one of the likely candidates for patriarch, some church leaders and organizations were distributed at the picket.
