The Chamber of Control and Accounts of Bashkortostan has discovered inappropriate spending of charitable funds collected for the construction of a cathedral mosque in Ufa. In 2006, 300 million rubles were allocated for construction. During the audit, it turned out that the general contractor Zhilstroykomplektsnab LLC spent 106 million “for its own needs”, did not pay 36 million in compensation for the demolition of the House of Culture to the Republican Society of the Deaf, and resettled the residents of the demolished houses without assessing the market value of their apartments.
According to the head of the Republican Chamber of Control and Accounts, Valery Kurguzov, “even the foundation of the mosque has not been completed, and there is no money left.”
By order of the Prime Minister of Bashkortostan Rail Sarbaev, materials from the audit of the activities of Zhilstroykomplektsnab LLC were transferred to law enforcement agencies for the possible initiation of a criminal case.
The head of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Republic of Bashkortostan, Nurmukhamet Nigmatullin , stated that neither he himself nor other employees of the Muslim Spiritual Directorate have anything to do with the expenditure of charitable funds.
