Dmitry Medvedev on extremism

On February 6, 2009, in Moscow, at an extended meeting of the Russian Interior Ministry, Dmitry Medvedev spoke about the manifestations of extremism in Russia.

“Recently, manifestations of extremism have caused great concern. Last year, even against the backdrop of a general decrease in crime, the number of such acts increased by almost a third. I will not say simple things about the fact that Russia is a multinational, multi-confessional country. a systemic threat to the existence of our society. In accordance with my Decree, specialized units for countering extremism are being created in the bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. I hope that this will allow us to move to a more efficient level of work," the President said.
