On March 3, 2009, Timoshkin received a notification that a case was initiated against him on February 25 under Part 1 of Art. 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. According to the investigator, some materials of the Drugoy Cherepovets newspaper "are aimed at inciting hatred or enmity, as well as humiliating the dignity of a person or a group of persons on the grounds of belonging to any social group" .
