On December 25, 2008, at the initiative of the Ministry of Justice, an audit was carried out by the Council of Muftis of Russia. On February 19, it became known that the Ministry of Justice issued the first warning to the Council , since violations of the legislation of the Russian Federation were discovered during the audit.
According to the Ministry of Justice, the Council of Muftis "uses an emblem that is not registered in the prescribed manner, and also grants other organizations the right to use it on a reimbursable basis."
During the inspection, the Ministry of Justice was also "submitted false information about the absence of publishing activity" of the Council of Muftis, refuted, in particular, by the materials of the inspection.
The Ministry of Justice ordered the Council of Muftis to "eliminate violations of the current legislation," and submit documents confirming the elimination of these violations to the ministry by May 15, 2009. Otherwise, after the second warning, a lawsuit will be filed to liquidate the organization.
Damir Gizatullin, First Deputy Chairman of the Spiritual Board of Muslims of the European Part of Russia, said that amendments to the charter would be made at the Majlis (Congress) of the Council of Muftis, which will open on March 2 in the building of the Cathedral Mosque of Moscow.
"We fully agree with the remarks of the Ministry of Justice. We know that violations must be eliminated, and we will amend the charter of the Council of Muftis in order to bring it into line with the law," he said.
In March, the Mejlis decided to make the necessary changes to the charter of the RMC .
