On February 28, 2009, the Department of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation in the Volga Federal District summed up the results of work in the field of countering extremist activity in 2008.
In 2008, the district prosecutors sent 34 submissions to the courts. In the Republic of Bashkortostan and the Samara Region, 16 informational materials were identified as extremist.
In total, in 2008, the district prosecutors revealed 5,689 violations of the law on combating extremism, for the elimination of which 2,333 submissions were made, 618 protests were brought, 1,366 people were warned about the inadmissibility of violations of the law. According to the decisions of the prosecutors, 1826 persons were brought to administrative and disciplinary responsibility.
In 2008, 81 criminal cases were initiated in the district on extremist crimes. District courts convicted 54 people in "extremist" cases, of which 30 were sentenced to imprisonment, 19 to suspended sentences, 2 to compulsory labor, and 3 to fines.
