The prosecutor's office did not see any crime in the embezzlement of funds donated for the construction of the Ufa Cathedral Mosque

The prosecutor's office of the Republic of Bashkortostan refused to open a criminal case on the fact of embezzlement of charitable funds for the construction of a cathedral mosque in Ufa due to the absence of corpus delicti.

Earlier, the Chamber of Control and Accounts of Bashkiria established that the general contractor OOO Zhilstroykompleksnab (ZhSKS) spent 106 million "for its own needs." Most of these funds were transferred by large enterprises, including state-owned ones. Individuals donated only 1.9 million rubles. The money was immediately transferred to the account of ZHSKS.

The prosecutor's office considered that the developer could not squander the donations, as he was the "manager" of the money received. Since Zufar Ayupov, the head of the ZHSKS, cannot be both an embezzler and a victim at the same time, the prosecutor's office did not find corpus delicti in the incident and refused to initiate a criminal case.

"Surprisingly, the prosecutor's office chose not to notice that Mr. Ayupov received the money under a tripartite agreement, where the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Republic of Belarus was listed as the manager," the Mediakorset website notes .
